Invited Dress Rehearsals

This is a night of theatre which truly serves our community.  This program originally began as a community outreach evening specifically for the Special Olympics, and has grown to create an even more inclusive community; youth living in group and foster homes; veterans in need of support; those living with AIDS and HIV; adult men and women in recovery; formerly homeless individuals and families; mental health consumers; people with developmental and/or physical disabilities; and low-income or forgotten seniors.

Program Goals

• Open our theatre doors to those individuals without a tradition of theatre attendance in order to promote community awareness, and provide cultural enrichment through the performing arts.
• Create a fan base and future patrons of American Musical Theatre of San Jose.

Invited Dress Rehearsal Policy

These policies and procedures apply to all Invited Dress Rehearsals for American Musical Theatre of San Jose’s produced shows. Policies outlined below will be in place through June 2009 and will be reviewed and revised annually after that in June of each year, or as necessary. American Musical Theatre of San Jose is committed to serving our diverse community through our Invited Dress Rehearsal.  This community outreach event brings non-profit service agencies and their clients to the final dress rehearsal of our four, produced shows.

Policy for Agencies and Clients

POLICY:  This event is a ticketed, invitation-only night at the theatre. There will be no extra tickets at the door and tickets cannot be purchased for this event. American Musical Theatre of San Jose’s goal is to provide cultural opportunities to those less fortunate. If an agency is not able to attend an event, we ask that you give us as much notice as possible, so that we may distribute those tickets to another social service agency. If agency/client does not show up for an event for which tickets have been requested, then we may re-evaluate their requests for upcoming Invited Dress Rehearsals. There is wheelchair seating for 14 patrons per performance. Wheelchair section seats must be reserved in advance and will be given to patrons utilizing the mobility accommodation on a first come, first served basis. Those seats will be marked specifically for each of those patrons. These seats are priority seats for persons with disabilities. 

PROCEDURE:Agencies accepted into the program must have the group leader reserve tickets, on a show by show basis, through our website: Click here to reserve tickets

When group leaders visit that page, they will enter their assigned Group Code where it says "Promotional Code." This will automatically pull up the Dress Rehearsal event. Group leaders can "purchase" the number of tickets at $0.00 that they need for that show. The group contact person will then create an account online and receive his/her own confirmation. Group leaders can add or subtract the number of tickets they reserve on a daily basis till the deadline; just reserve tickets for clients until the maximum number of tickets set for the agency has been reached by the deadline. For group contact leaders, the ticket window for each agency will open one month prior to each Invited Dress Rehearsal date on a show by show basis throughout the season, and close at midnight on the Thursday before each Monday show. All tickets reserved through the website will be waiting at the theatre on the night of the performance. Group leaders are responsible for picking up the tickets from the theatre box office (CPA) and distributing them to the individuals in their groups.

FOR PERFORMANCES: All Invited Dress Rehearsals are at the San Jose Center for Performing Arts located at 255 Almaden Boulevard, San Jose, CA 95113; at the corner of Almaden Boulevard and Park Avenue. 

FOR TICKET PICK-UP:  The reserved tickets must be picked up by each agency’s group leader at the box office windows beginning at 6:45 pm on the night of the performance.  Doors to the theatre open at 7:00 pm; show time is 7:30 pm.
